OVERVIEW

Back in 2017, Joy was part of a panel discussion with fellow Charlotte author Sarah Crosland who was promoting her book Secret Charlotte: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure.  She was drawn to the idea that there were so many things about the city even native Charlotteans didn’t know. In her research she came across Camp Greene, a WWI army training that doubled the size of the city in 1917. The camp is long gone, but the neighborhood still bears its name.

Joy’s lived in Charlotte most of her life. Despite her attendance at Myers Park Traditional Elementary, Sedgefield Middle and South Meck High, she’d never heard about Camp Greene. She’d decided to change that with her newest protagonist Calla and her story The Star of Camp Greene.

She also celebrates her local roots with Sing Me Home to Carolina, a certain page-turner for fans of small-town romance and quirky casts of characters set in small town South Carolina.

Whether you’re new to Charlotte or a stalwart native, this moderated conversation by author Susie Orman Schnall will expand your appreciation for the place we call home.

“The Star of Camp Greene is a compelling read that had me putting other things off in order to keep turning the pages…”

Camille Di Maio
Bestselling author of Come Fly with Me

“Filled with Southern small-town details, compellingly complex characters, a touch of heartache, and a wonderful romantic dilemma, it’s a must for your To-Be-Read list!”

Sherryl Woods
#1 New York Times bestselling author of the Sweet Magnolias series
