“GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of radical generosity.”
—excerpted from GivingTuesday website
We are all familiar with the Black Friday sales leading into Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday following Thanksgiving. Giving Tuesday refocuses our thoughts and dollars on the charitable organizations that strengthen and support our community.
At the Library Foundation, we encourage people to contribute to our libraries and library staff who create educational, safe and inspiring spaces year-round for everyone in Mecklenburg County.
We distributed “Support your Local Library” stickers, children’s coloring sheets, and more to all the branches in celebration of Giving Tuesday. The branches incorporated these and other elements as part of their displays and encouraged patrons to donate to the Library.
As an extra incentive Foundation board member Peter Keane and his family foundation Alpha & Omega Foundation matched every gift, dollar for dollar, up to $10,000 total. On Tuesday afternoon we incentivized potential donors with the lure of a commemorative Verse & Vino tote or mug. All the hard work paid off.
As of Wednesday morning, we raised $25,096 with 251 donors — 25% over our goal of $20,000!
EDIT: Our final tally is $31,881 with 294 donors – 59% over goal!
Thanks to Peter Keane and family, to our branch managers and Foundation champions, and to all who support the Library.
It’s not too late! You can still have your gift counted toward our Giving Tuesday campaign if you give by the end of the week, Friday, December 1. Click here to donate.
