When I moved to Charlotte in 1999, I found a growing and welcoming community and decided to call it home.  I knew that with that choice, came the responsibility of helping it grow, participating actively in activities and giving back.  I spent 13 years as the Executive Director of the Bilingual Preschool, which allowed me to do all that and more by serving several hundred children and families through the years.  However, it was difficult to watch all the children that remained on our waiting list and would never have a chance to get ready for school…

Charlotte Mecklenburg Library helps us change that.  It allows me to use a two-generation educational approach with caregivers and children, so families learn together.  Our wide footprint makes it possible for us to work in multiple parts of the county so that we can reach the people that can’t reach us.  Being innovative while keeping the pulse on our community’s needs lets us offer programs and interventions that address the true needs of the whole child.

This is how we improve 3rd Grade Reading.

This is how we improve lives and build a stronger community.

This is why I give to my Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation.
