Staying Home? Others Recommend…

FaceTime + Picture Books = CONNECTION!

In this period of social distancing, we asked (online, of course) what our community is doing to stay busy at home. Turns out that with a little help from your library there’s plenty to read, watch, learn and hear! More resources (and expanded access to some favorites) are coming online regularly, so keep checking the Library’s website for new tools to discover.

A few suggestions, edited for length and clarity:

from Debby
I’m listening to The Last Mile by David Baldacci, easily downloaded from my Libby app. I just finished The Mother-in-law by Sally Hepworth with my book club and we all liked it. I also recently finished Someone Knows by Lisa Scottoline, a good mystery with a surprise ending.

I also use the Historic North Carolina Digital Newspaper collection, located on the Resource page, to research information on my husband’s family for our family tree. Note: Ancestry.com, library edition, is now available from home!

from Monica
I recommend books by Carol Goodman and Eva Gates for adults, and Aaron Blabey for juniors or his picture books for children. I’d also recommend a few podcasts: Armchair Expert, S-Town, The Office Ladies, and Conan and Friends. I’ve recently discovered Hoopla.

from Howie Lemonds
I’d recommend Sharp Objects or Dark Places by Gillian Flynn, and a few podcasts: My Brother, My Brother and Me, Hey Riddle Riddle, and The Adventure Zone, to add a little levity to your life. I check out films through Kanopy and I’ve been able to watch my favorite movies on my TV without ever having to leave the house.
