Book Club Madness is an annual competition for local book clubs produced by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation. Through a series of weekly games book club members win points for their club. Much like March Madness, book club teammates can score two pointers, three pointers and free throws for their club, along with fun weekly prizes and bragging rights.
One lucky book club will win a table for ten at Verse & Vino – the Foundation’s annual fundraising gala featuring New York Times bestselling authors with great food and wine, a $2,000 value. We will also have a drawing for a group class for 10 at SkillPop and weekly prizes from local independent bookstores.
Book Club Madness is entering its third season, and the Foundation is bringing a new recruit to the team. Meghan Anderson from South Boulevard Library will be the next commissioner, assisting director of marketing and communications Maggie Bean with the lively competition. Meghan brings a fresh perspective to the competition and has some great new ideas to get more book clubs involved.
“What’s better than finishing a good book? Finishing it and discussing it!” said Meghan, “I love being in book clubs and running book clubs. And I think we, as library staff, can do a lot to foster the power of a good book club.”
Meghan is encouraging other Library staff to join her in supporting the competition. Madness Coaches at select branches will help promote the competition within their location. Library staff can help you register online, fill out the scorecard, and review the weekly challenges.
“I’m so thrilled to have Meghan help us take Book Club Madness to the next level,” said Maggie. “Book club people are Library people, and we really enjoy activating their passion for literature and conversation at the Library.”
