The Update for February 9, 2024

Above: Did you get your Valentine from us this year?

Love is in the air at the Library.

February means Valentine’s Day and its obligatory chocolates, flowers and date nights, but here at Library Foundation, we proudly celebrate National Library Lovers Month.

We sent Valentines out to all of our donors. It’s a tradition we started last year, creating a faux book cover postcard as a cheeky way to say thank you for your support. (Also, they make a great bookmark.)

Love and gratitude go hand in hand. The Library is featuring “Gratitude” as a theme in the Books and More section of their website with a selection of staff-recommendations ready for check-out. Ross Gay, a Verse & Vino alum, is on the curated list with Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude, a book of poetry that won the 2015 National Book Critics Circle Award.

Are you someone who shows their love through food and cooking? You’ll not want to miss the Library’s signature Community Read book, Buttermilk Graffiti: a Chef’s Journey to Discover America’s New Melting-pot Cuisine by Edward Lee. The Library Foundation is a proud sponsor of Community Read, a month-long effort to have our Charlotte Mecklenburg friends and neighbors read (or listen) to books of current and relevant topics (this time it’s food as a connector) and participate in discussions, book clubs and events. The event kicks off in March.

However you like to celebrate in February, I hope you do it with a lot of love. And also chocolate.

With love and gratitude,

Jenni Gaisbauer, CFRE
Executive Director
