Gift to create community gathering spaces

Charlotte, NC – Dec. 17 –Three Charlotte Mecklenburg Library branches will receive updates and refurbishments thanks to a $75,000 grant from Lowe’s. The gift will transform Beatties Ford Road Regional Library, Sugar Creek Branch Library, and Plaza Midwood Branch Library by creating gathering spaces with new furniture, carpet, and paint. The Sugar Creek and Plaza Midwood spaces will be geared towards children and teens and Beatties Ford will receive an outdoor patio renovation for programs and events.

“The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation is an important resource for our community,” said James Frison, Lowe’s Director of Community Relations. “Lowe’s wants to help create inviting spaces where all Charlotte-area residents can gather to learn or connect with others.”

In addition to the gift, more than 30 Lowe’s Heroes employee volunteers completed projects at Beatties Ford Road Regional Library, Hickory Grove, and Main Library on Thursday, Dec. 17. Projects included rearranging the Library’s Collection at Main Library and Beatties Ford Road.

“This gift will assist us in making three of our locations more welcoming, and supports our vision to provide access to our community in a welcoming, open and inspirational environment,” said Lee Keesler, Library CEO. “We are grateful for Lowe’s generous donation and for the many volunteers who helped us improve spaces at two additional branches.”

The projects at the three locations will start in January 2016.
