There’s more to the story at your Library

One could argue that any day spent at the library is a very good day. But on April 4 the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is celebrating an extra special day — National Library Giving Day.

There are over 9,000 public libraries in communities across the nation. For all that libraries provide to their community — from picture books to large print, audiobooks to e-books — there is always more to the story.

Library programming brings communities together for entertainment, education, and connection through book clubs, storytimes, game nights, crafting classes, and lectures. Library infrastructure advances communities, providing internet and technology access, literacy skills, and support for businesses, job seekers, and entrepreneurs.

And the best part? It’s free — and we think it’s priceless.

Public libraries depend on support from the communities they serve to maintain these extraordinary places that provide free, open access to all.

Won’t you join us on #LibraryGivingDay with your gift of support on April 4? Our goal on this one-day fundraising event is to encourage people who depend on and enjoy Charlotte Mecklenburg Library to donate, from large to small and everything in-between.

As an extra incentive, every dollar raised on Library Giving Day will be matched by the Jesse Lutz Gregory family from now until April 4, dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000.

Help us reach our goal by giving online or by mail. We also hope you visit your favorite branch and pick up a free “Support Your Local Library” sticker. Display it with pride and voice your support of free and open access to information.

“It’s important to set aside a day to truly reflect on the gifts the Library and its staff give to the people in their communities,” said Library CEO Marcellus Turner, “In turn it gives us all an opportunity to recognize the value of public libraries – and give back.”
