The Thrill of Reading all Summer

Summer Break avoids the summer slide

Your Library’s Summer Break program promises to fill the season with adventure…and with Carowinds as a partner, that’s an easy promise to keep!

Summer learning opportunities are especially critical to help students avoid an academic “summer slide,” creating an achievement gap that can be hard to close when school resumes. Summer Break encourages participants of all ages – children, teens and adults – to read 20 minutes each day and engage in additional learning activities like writing, creating, playing, exploring and giving. Participants track their activities online, collecting virtual badges and incentives.

Summer Break participants who log activity or reading time for each of the ten weeks of the program will be eligible to receive a Carowinds park pass. Last year this incentive was so popular that Carowinds has generously increased their sponsorship and will again provide the Library with park passes valid through the end of the 2019 season.”

You can also celebrate literacy inside the park!

Carowinds will distribute children’s books collected during this spring’s WSOC 9 Books for Kids book drive to pre-K passholders while supplies last, and Carowinds and your Library will offer programs together during Library Week at Carowinds. From July 22-28, Library cardholders can purchase park tickets through a special link at a reduced price. Additional discounts may be available through this portal throughout the summer.
