Here’s a look at what Gina is reading:
My reading selections are usually more varied between fiction and non-fiction. I have found, however, that recently, my reading has been heavily weighted toward fiction and storytelling.
100 Years of Lenni & Margot, Marianne Cronin
I had never heard of this book or its author before but saw it on a “Best of” list toward the end of 2021. The jacket description looked promising, so I took a chance. Wow. I laughed. I cried. I devoured this book in just over one day. I gave away my copy and several others getting it out there in the universe. It definitely goes down as one of my all-time favorites.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Taylor Jenkins Reid
This is the latest pick from my book club. I’m just getting into it. I recently watched a documentary on Netflix entitled “This Changes Everything” about women in Hollywood and the story line, although fiction, follows the themes of inequality.
The Lincoln Highway, Amor Towles
From the first paragraph of A Gentleman in Moscow, I was a number one fan of this author. Although The Lincoln Highway is a very different fiction, the characters in the story are good and bad, great and low, complex yet simple. There are very thought-provoking themes throughout. Thoroughly entertaining.
Next up:
Poster Girls, Meredith Ritchie.
This book is just being released by a dear friend of mine, Meredith Ritchie. This is her debut novel, and I am so very excited for her. Here’s a recent description of the novel: “Told from two perspectives, the story is driven by the true but forgotten events and accomplishments of a diverse group of American women, both relevant and necessary to stop modern cycles of misunderstanding.”
Matyr of Loray Mill, Kristina Horton
Being from Gastonia and studying the Loray Mill Strike in primary school, I’m looking forward to re-educating myself about this historical event from an adult lens.
