Artist Melody Cassen will talk about her piece that the Library recently commissioned and installed at Pineville at 1:15 pm. We also encourage you to informally “Meet Melody” throughout the day to talk about her new art in the Library.

Megan Miranda
Megan Miranda is the New York Times bestselling author of All the Missing Girls; The Perfect Stranger; The Last House Guest, a Reese Witherspoon Book Club pick; The Girl from Widow Hills; Such a Quiet Place; The Last to Vanish; and The Only Survivors. She has also written several books for young adults. She grew up in New Jersey, graduated from MIT, and lives in North Carolina with her husband and two children. Melody Cassen
Having come from a family of scientists and global travelers, at an early age, Melody V. Cassen was exposed to the natural world and the world at large. Working primarily with digital imagery (her own photography, stock imagery and ephemera), allows her to build rich, tactile layers that invite the viewer to delve into the deeper meanings behind each piece. The vibrant hues in her work serve to affirm life’s resilience and diversity, while the intricate layering invites contemplation of the unity that lies beneath. Ultimately, Cassen’s artwork is about connection — between individuals, humanity and the environment, and even within oneself. She hopes that through her art, viewers will be reminded of the sacredness of all life and feel a renewed sense of connection to the world around them.
Cassen currently lives and works in Charlotte, NC. She holds a BFA in visual communications with a minor in photography from East Carolina University. Her work has been exhibited in Charlotte, NC, New York City, with the ArtPop Street Gallery project and virtually with the Arts to Hearts Project. Most recently, she completed a public art commission for the permanent collection of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, Pineville Branch.
