Everything is in Play with Summer Reading at the Library

Signature program returns June 14 through August 16

Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, the Charlotte Hornets and the Grant Williams Foundation tip-off the sunny season with Summer Reading. The literacy program runs from June 14 through August 16 and is intended to promote the importance of reading, and to encourage reading for all ages. Registration is now open.

Adapting skills from the basketball court, the Library is challenging participants to “Block Out Time to Read” this summer. There is no assigned reading so participants are free to read whatever they may like and enjoy. This includes books, magazines, newspapers, audiobooks and more.

“Reading has been a framework of my entire life and has helped me tremendously off-the-court. I’m beyond thrilled that the Grant Williams Family Foundation, Charlotte Hornets, and Charlotte Mecklenburg Library could come together to kick off such an incredible summer program that will bring joy and literacy to those participating,” said Grant Williams, Charlotte Hornets Forward. “I hope that this program encourages more people to join me in blocking out time to read, whatever that looks like for each individual.”

Participants can sign up for Summer Reading by visiting a local Library branch to pick up a reading tracker – or they can print one. For a digital tracker, simply visit cmlibrary.beanstack.org or download the “Beanstack Tracker” app by Zoobean. The app is available for free download through the Google Play and Apple App stores.

The Summer Reading tracker is designed with reading milestones along the course where prizes can be collected when participants have read for 15, 30, 45 and 60 days. Participants will receive a coupon for a FREE Jr. Frosty from Wendy’s just for signing up and can earn more prizes as they continue reading. All ages are welcome to participate.

The Summer Reading program is presented by Charlotte Mecklenburg Library with additional generous support from the Charlotte Hornets, the Grant Williams Foundation, Carowinds, Charlotte Football Club, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation, and Wendy’s.

I hope that this program encourages more people to join me in blocking out time to read, whatever that looks like for each individual.
