At Home with Cathy Pickens

Publishers Weekly called Cathy Pickens’ first mystery Southern Fried, a St. Martin’s Malice Domestic Award winner, an “assured debut, a cozy with some sharp edges.” In addition to writing five books in that series, she is true crime columnist for Mystery Readers Journal. Her latest books are:

  • Charlotte (NC) True Crime Stories (2019)
  • True Crime Stories of Eastern North Carolina (May 2020) (both from History Press).
  • CREATE! Developing Your Creative Process (ICSC Press 2020)

Cathy served as president of national Sisters in Crime, secretary of Mystery Writers of America, and a founding member and president of the Mecklenburg Forensic Medicine Program (an evidence collection/preservation training collaborative). A lawyer and former college professor at in the McColl School of Business at Queens University of Charlotte, she offers workshops on developing the creative process, coaches and teaches new writers through Charlotte Lit, and works with former inmates on starting their own businesses and writing their own stories.
